Help
Short answers to the things people ask most. Still stuck? Write to hello@boopy.dev.
Do we both need a subscription?
Yes. Each of you watches through your own account on the streaming service. Mellow never carries video; it only keeps your players in step and carries chat and voice.
Which services work?
Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+ and HBO Max, in Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer.
The title will not play for my partner.
Streaming catalogs differ by country. If a title is not licensed where they are, their player cannot load it and Mellow shows a note in the sidebar. Originals made by the service itself are usually available everywhere.
What happens during ads?
On plans with ads, breaks play at different times for each of you. When one of you hits a break, Mellow pauses the other until it is over.
Someone keeps buffering.
Mellow pauses everyone while one person buffers, then resumes together. If it happens a lot, lowering the video quality on the slower connection helps.
Only one of us should control playback.
The person who started the party can click the lock in the sidebar. While it is on, only they can play, pause and skip; everyone else follows.
Voice is not working.
Click the microphone icon in the address bar and allow it for the streaming site, then turn the mic on in the sidebar. If you hear an echo, use headphones.
Can I use it on my phone or TV?
Not yet. Browser extensions only run on computers. An invite opened on a phone shows a button to send it to yourself.
My connection dropped.
Mellow keeps your seat for 30 seconds. When you are back, it reconnects on its own and puts you at the right moment.
How do I leave?
Click the leave button at the bottom of the sidebar, or close the tab.
