Privacy
Mellow is built to know as little about you as possible.
What passes through our server
- The party code, and the name you choose to show.
- Playback events: play, pause, position and the title id, so both players stay in step.
- Chat messages and reactions, kept in memory for the life of the party so a late joiner sees recent messages. They are gone when the last person leaves.
- Connection setup messages for voice and video.
What never does
- Video. Each of you streams from your own account directly from the service.
- Your voice and camera. They travel directly between you and the other people in the party, encrypted by your browser. If a direct path is impossible they go through a relay that cannot decrypt them.
- Your streaming login, payment details or viewing history.
Storage
Mellow keeps nothing on disk about your parties. Your browser stores your display name and your microphone preference in its own extension storage. Server logs record errors and connection counts, not message content.
Permissions
The extension reads pages only on the supported streaming sites and on mellow.boopy.dev. It asks for the microphone or camera only when you turn them on, through your browser's own prompt.
